USP 800: Made Simple

Published by American College of Apothecaries and Alliance for Pharmacy Compounding

Summary

Implementation of USP 800 is a deeply interconnected process between the owners, pharmacists, technicians, consultants, general contractors, architects, engineers, and anyone else involved in the project. It is important that everyone is speaking the same language and moving in the same direction. This presentation will break down and attempt to make simple the people and processes involved in hazardous drug handling implementation in your pharmacy.

Learning Objectives for Pharmacists:
1. Identify how correct engineering and safe workflow are interdependent for hazardous drug handling compliance
2. Discuss what the general contractor, HVAC contract, and/or architects and engineers should understand the goals of USP compliance
3. Identify common activities during compounding formulation where personnel and environmental exposure occur

Learning Objectives for Technicians:
1. Identify common activities during compounding formulation where personnel and environmental exposure occur
2. Identify how safe workflow is the key to hazardous drug handling success
3. Identify proper use of engineering controls to mitigate exposure risk

This is a knowledge-based CE activity and is targeted to pharmacists and technicians.
